Mauricio Salazar, M.D. - Medical Editor

Born and raised in Columbia, South America, Dr. Salazar graduated from Universidad Libre, Facultad de Medicina Seccional in Cali, Columbia. Upon graduation, Dr. Salazar gained experience in the fields of emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and general family practice. After four years of practice in his native country, Dr. Salazar moved to the United States to practice radiation oncology and medical oncology at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center - Orlando, the first and largest affiliate of the world-renowned University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Presently with the Family Physicians Group, one of Central Florida's largest, private group practices, Dr Salazar currently works in Medicare risk adjustment and care management and does not practice clinical medicine. Serving as the final stage of approval for all medical content, Dr. Salazar reviews, edits, and approves all medical information on the site for fact-based, unbiased accuracy.

Carl Jewett - Veteran Content Editor

Carl Jewett is a retired LCDR (Lieutenant Commander) in the U.S. Navy and the Executive Director of the Veterans Assistance Network, a company devoted to assisting veterans navigate through the often confusing VA benefits application process. Serving as the Veteran Liaison for the Mesothelioma Cancer Center, Carl assists veteran clients in obtaining the maximum benefits to which they are entitled.Carl also serves as the Veteran Content Editor, reviewing veteran content and statistical information for veracity.

Michelle Whitmer - Chief of Editorial Staff

Serving as the Chief of Editorial Staff, Michelle Whitmer reviews, edits, and approves all editorial content for medical, scientific, and factual accuracy. Michelle is a published journalist with more than six years experience in the fields of editing, copywriting, and professional writing. With broad experience in environmental, travel, biographical, and feature writing, she has been published in more than 15 publications that cross a multitude of genres. Prior to joining the Mesothelioma Cancer Center, she held multiple administrative and directorial positions that spanned both print and online media. Throughout her career, Michelle has garnered diverse editorial experience while maintaining a focus in environmental and advocacy journalism.

Jensen Whitmer - Editor & Copywriter

Jensen Whitmer serves as a primary editor and writer for the Mesothelioma Cancer Center. He is currently enrolled at Rollins College, majoring in Organizational Communication. Jensen is dedicated to journalistic integrity, providing up-to-date and factual research that contributes vital and life-saving information to the public. He has joined the Mesothelioma Cancer Center with the desire and intent to spread awareness on the detrimental effects of asbestos exposure.

Jason Dambrauskas - Research & Development

Jason Dambrauskas brings more than five years of specialized experience to Mesothelioma Cancer Center. Representing a foundational step in the editorial process, Jason manages the research and development of all editorial content. With a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Rochester and having personally faced cancer in recent years, Jason brings a professionally diverse and personally inspired focus to the Mesothelioma Cancer Center.

Kaylen Myrick - Contributing Editor

Kaylen Myrick is a published contributor to a series of collegiate undergraduate-level course text books that serve as part of the core course curriculum at various state universities throughout Florida, including The University of Florida, Florida State University, and The University of Central Florida. Since earning a degree in Organizational Communication from The University of Central Florida, she has developed copy for numerous national advertising campaigns, including those for The Susan G. Komen Foundation, GreenWise, and Autism Speaks. Kaylen's work has been revered in the arenas of environmental education promotion and not-for-profit advertising, and she looks forward to helping raise a continued understanding for environmental and human safety through her current position with the Mesothelioma Cancer Center.
